The project, which is funded by the European Parliament, aims to connect Europe’s youth with a European identity and to raise awareness of the fundamental values of the European Union through travel. Twice a year there are application rounds in which the European Commission gives away at least 35,000 travel tickets.
“It’s an essential aspect of the European Union and of growing up to be able to move around freely and explore other countries. This is exactly what we make possible for young people with DiscoverEU,” says the State Secretary for Youth, Claudia Plakolm; in the photo with the OeAD’s managing director Jakob Calice, Florian Gérard (Erasmus+ Youth ambassador), Dave Kock (ESC ambassador) and Ernst Gesslbauer (OeAD).
The winners have got five to six months’ time to start their journeys by train. Travellers can choose between a flexible and a fixed travel booking. More than 95% of the travellers opt for the flexible option, i.e. a Global Pass, with which they can travel through Europe free of charge for a maximum of one month (maximum of 7 travel days).
