Training Course: Organising Your First Erasmus+ Youth Exchange

This training course is designed for voluntary and professional youth workers who work directly with young people. It supports participants in developing and submitting their first international Youth Exchange project under the Erasmus+ Youth Programme.

The course provides an international learning experience that helps participants gain the confidence, knowledge, and skills needed to organise a Youth Exchange.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will:

Understand the Erasmus+ Youth Programme, with a particular focus on Youth Exchanges.

• Learn how young people can actively participate in planning and implementing Youth Exchange projects.
• Gain practical experience through a simulated Youth Exchange project process.
• Develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to organise high-quality Youth Exchanges based on non-formal learning principles and quality standards.
• Reflect on their learning using Youthpass, the European recognition tool for non-formal learning.
• Meet potential project partners and build contacts with organisations from other countries.

Programme

• Arrival on Tuesday December 8
• Departure on Saturday December 12

The course includes:

• 3 full working days, plus an arrival day and a departure day.
• Practical learning through a simulation exercise.
• Workshops and information sessions.
• Activities that strengthen group dynamics and cooperation.
• Reflection and evaluation sessions.

The training follows a learning-by-doing approach, allowing participants to experience the process of creating a Youth Exchange project from start to finish.

Venue

The training takes place at Youth Centre Hyvärilä, located in the countryside of north-eastern Finland, approximately 500 km from Helsinki.

Accommodation can vary. Participants will stay in single rooms or in a separate area like a loft, while in some cases kitchen, living room and bathroom facilities may be shared.

In this event, we follow the principles of a safer space. We strive to ensure that everyone is met as their own self and that no one has to fear discrimination or harassment. We want you to respect the same principle.

Our activities are accessible to people with different abilities. If you need a support person, accessible room and transport or other kind of support, we will provide it for you. You can tell your individual needs in beforehand so we can support you in your participation.

We take sustainability in consideration where we can. Since most participants have to fly over the sea to Finland, we encourage you to travel on land within Finland. We also encourage you to contact your own national agency to find out how they support low emission travelling to activities abroad.

We provide plant-based meals, or use locally grown and produced foods, as much as possible. We also respect the diets and food allergies of all participants.

About the Training Course

The Network of National Agencies for Erasmus+ Youth organises 3 to 5 editions of this training course each year, offering youth workers across Europe the opportunity to take their first steps into international youth work and Youth Exchange projects.

The Finnish NA will organise the accommodation and covers the costs for accommodation and food.

This project is financed by the participating National Agencies (NAs) of the Erasmus+ Youth Programme. The participation fee varies from country to country. Please contact your National Agency or SALTO Resource Centre (SALTO) to learn more about the participation fee for participants from your country.

Please contact your NA or SALTO in order to know whether they would support your travel costs. If yes, after being selected, get in touch with your NA or SALTO again to learn more about the overall procedure to arrange the booking of your travel tickets and the reimbursement of your travel expenses.
