A training course for youth workers on supporting young people to identify and express what they learn through youth work

Beschreibung

We invite youth workers to explore the learning potential of youth work and strengthen its quality by practising tools that support young people in reflecting on, recognising and expressing what they learn.

As youth workers, we know that youth work is full of learning and contributes greatly to young people’s personal development. Yet we sometimes lack the competences or confidence to intentionally support young people in reflecting on their learning. At the same time, the ability to facilitate learning is not only beneficial for young people - it is also a key element of quality youth work.

So how can we help young people identify and express what they have learned in ways that can truly benefit them? How can this learning become visible to young people themselves and to others?

With this training course, we aim to develop youth workers’ competences to facilitate and recognise young people’s learning

Specific objectives are to:

  • Discuss and exchange practices on the potential of learning in youth work;
  • Explore what supporting learning means in the role of youth worker;
  • Practice tools that support the learning process of young people in youth work activities;
  • Give practical support to formulate and document the learning outcomes.

The course is based on the Youthpass concept as a process that supports reflective learning in youth projects.

Profile of participants:

This course is for you if you:

  • Are a youth worker or other practitioner (such as a youth leader, mentor or coach)
  • Believe in the learning potential of youth work and want to further strengthen the quality of your practice
  • Work regularly with young people, individually or in group settings, at local or international level
  • Are interested in supporting young people in recognising, reflecting on and expressing the value of their learning experiences
  • Are at least 18 years old and able to actively communicate and work in English

The timeline and main elements of the training course:

“Learning Out Loud” offers more than a residential training course. The different phases of the process allow you to prepare, actively experiment with ideas and tools, and later apply the learning in your youth work practice. To gain the full value of the experience, you are expected to engage in all phases of the project.

  • Pre-course online group meeting  13th May 10:00-11:30 CET
  • Individual preparatory activities before the residential course
  • Residential activity 3-5th June
  • Individual micro follow up activities after the residential course
  • Post-course online group meeting 23rd June 10:00-11:30 CET
